Common formats, clear limits

Files must be under 100 MB and 20 minutes. Decoded audio must fit within 240 MB, and actual device memory can impose a lower limit. The editor keeps one recording open at a time. Encrypted, DRM-protected, corrupt and unsupported codec variants cannot be opened.

A browser decoder handles files it supports directly. Other input types and compressed downloads use a locally hosted WebAssembly codec engine, downloaded when needed. Audio processing stays on the device. A failed conversion should leave the previous version intact.

Choose quality with the next step in mind

MP3, AAC, Vorbis and Opus use lossy encoding. Repeated conversions can reduce quality. WAV, AIFF and FLAC avoid a new lossy encode, but cannot recover information lost in an earlier recording or export. The current PCM export path uses 16-bit samples; it does not preserve source bit depth, all tags, markers or broadcast metadata.

For sharing, try MP3. For another edit, use WAV or FLAC and keep the source separately. Changing a filename extension does not convert its audio.
