A PRACTICAL AUDIO GUIDE

ChatGPT M4A Editor: Edit Voice Memos with Prompts

Turn a phone voice memo into the recording you meant to make. Upload the M4A file, describe what should change and listen to the edited version before you save it.

Upload audio and start editing

Start with the original voice memo

Share or export the voice memo from your recording app, then choose that M4A file in GPTAudioEditor. You can upload it directly; there is no need to convert it to MP3 first. A short original memo gives you a better starting point than a copy that has already been converted several times.

Remove the time before you start speaking

If the first few seconds contain handling noise or waiting, ask for a timed cut: “Remove the first 4 seconds and keep everything after that.” Play the new opening to check that it starts before the first full word. If the cut is too tight, open History, return to the original and use a smaller number.

Make a spoken message easier to hear

For uneven speech, try “make my voice more even in volume and keep it natural.” This is more useful than simply making the whole file louder: a loud phrase should not become uncomfortable just to make a quiet one audible. Listen to both the quietest phrase and the loudest part of the message.

Save the version your recipient can use

Choose M4A to download AAC audio in an M4A container, or MP3 for a compact sharing copy. WAV is useful if another editor will work on the recording. M4A can hold different codecs, so unusual or protected files may need an unprotected export from the original recording app. The current M4A download uses AAC at 192 kbps.

A prompt to try

Remove the first 3 seconds and make my voice more even in volume. Keep all the words after the cut and keep my voice natural.

Play the first complete sentence, a quiet phrase and the ending. Then open the download in the app where you intend to share it.

Common questions

Can I edit an iPhone M4A voice memo?

Yes. Export the memo as a file and upload it. Use the original recording where possible, within the 100 MB and 20-minute limits.

Can I convert M4A to MP3 after editing?

Yes. Choose MP3 beside the player and use the download button. Renaming the file extension manually does not convert its audio.
